Earth viewed from Saturn!!!
Woah! we are tiny! I just stumbled upon this picture of planet Earth viewed from saturn and we barely made it in the picture, thats crazy! lol
Libby Soundboard
You guys HAVE to take a look at this thing. Its hilarious, it was made by another student at NJIT and its a soundboard of professor Libby, so far all I know most of these are from his Introduction to Astronomy and Cosmology class, definitely something to look at its really funny...
RCA’s Airenergy Promises to Charge Your Blackberry Using Wifi
Apparently there are more uses for Wi-Fi than previously thought. RCA's latest invention shown at this year's International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas named, Airenergy gained immediate attention, boating claims that it can charge a Blackberry smartphone at 30% charge to 100% in just under two hours!
This simple yet breakthrough device actively searches for Wi-Fi from any network or wireless hotspot and efficiently converts the signals into energy, stored in the charger's internal battery. RCA also says that the technology can be incorporated into any replacement battery for mobile devices, which makes this technology remarkable.
Moreover, tech website GIZMODO contends they were able to charge a Blackberry Bold all the way from 30% to full power in less than 90 minutes using only Wi-Fi harvested energy.
As for pricing, Maximum PC at the show floor in Vegas, happily writes,"RCA claims it will be available by the summer, and they are aiming at an MSRP of around $40 for the external enclosure version, and around $60 built into a replacement battery for your cell phone."
Hopefully, RCA may eventually reach a point were the technology can be fully integrated and efficient enough to power and charge all battery powered devices including laptops.
How cool would it be to use this technology on campus, at a mall, at the airport, the nearest coffee shop, or even a city with a WiMax or 4G infrastructure and not worry about charging the cell phone or finding a friendly place to plug in the laptop?
The potential for this technology is a quantum leap for mobile computing to say the least, and I hope RCA succeeds.
Laser Projectors and Touch Screens: Introducing Holographic Laser Projection!
Is anyone familiar with the movie Minority Report? That and other science fiction movies have touted hyper realistic computers with the ability to have the graphical user interfaces (GUIs) projected into thin air or just about any surface imaginable, and the UK based company Light Blue Optics which makes miniature, high volume digital projection systems for consumer electronics, automotive applications, and digital signage systems has perfected the technology, turning any flat surface into a high resolution touch screen.
According to Light Blue Optics, the technology uses "Holographic Laser Projection (HLP™) technology inside which creates bright, high-quality video images in WVGA resolution. Integrated infrared sensors detect motion and turn the projected image into a 10.1″ virtual touch screen, so the user can control the projector and interact with applications simply by touching the image."
The company says that the Light Touch, which uses the Holographic Laser Projection (HLP) innovative technology has been engineered toward miniaturization, with the production roadmap for its light engines eventually arriving at a small "8cc – that’s roughly the same volume as a USB stick." HLP is also low-cost, uses a Class 1 certification making it eye safe, and always in focus due to its laser rather than optical lens technology.
Moreover, the Light Touch system supports Adobe Flash Lite 3.1, Wireless, and Bluetooth technologies, and 2GB of built-in flash memory, expandable to 32GB via a Micro SD card slot. In addition to the Light Touch being powered with electricity, it is capable of using batteries, with a run-time of over two hours.
The company proudly boasts on their website, "The opportunities for Light Touch™ extend beyond consumer electronics and into retail spaces, the workplace and the home profoundly changing the way people interact with multimedia content and the built environment. Light Touch™ has recently been named a CES Innovations Honoree in both the Media Player and Personal Electronics categories."
This amazing technology has the potential to revolutionize the computing space, making all monitors obsolete one day, granted the diminutive 10.1 projection screen gets larger. Who loves innovation? We do!
NASA Picture of the… hmmm… month? ha!
Okay I been slacking lately! what? u have a problem?? lol jk...
Anyways here it is:
Microsoft and HP unveil the HP Slate: How Original?
During a keynote speech at the International CES yesterday, Steve Ballmer showcased nothing short of an ordinary tablet PC, which oddly enough carries the name Slate.
Where is the originality? Obviously aimed at taking a shot at Apple's planned device and trademark, the iSlate, Microsoft's and HP's, Slate has specs which fall flat, no hardware specs or battery life information other than a multi-touch screen, and even it's thickness (it's fat) begs one to question the innovative approaches at Microsoft, seeing as they have been touting (and supposedly designing) a tablet PC for years!
One would think, according to British newspaper, The Guardian, that Microsoft who has been trying to garner support for tablet PCs for more than a "decade -- with CE-based PC Companions, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition and the small-screen Origami systems -- without success" that they would get it right.
"Thanks to the multi-touch features in Windows 7, many Windows PC manufacturers are now trying to build newer and better tablets, but Ballmer didn't demo these at length, or show Microsoft's own Courier development, or capitalise on the renewed interest in the [tablet] form factor created by Apple's forthcoming iTablet/iSlate/whatever," reports The Guardian.
Well, for those looking for a video demonstration, here is one made by HP, which is purportedly a trailer for some sort. Aren't trailers only for movies? How about some specifications!?
So it’s almost Official, Apple Has a New Tablet PC
As the rumors swirl, Aharon Etengoff of website TGDaily confirms of a new tablet PC by Cupertino, CA based Apple Computer dubbed the iSlate, functioning as both an e-reader, video conferencing device, and even a virtual keyboard for text entry, also aimed at taking market share away the plethora of e-book readers available and significantly, Amazon's Kindle.
Rumors from many sources lean toward Apple hosting a major media event where it will reveal a major new product.
Moreover, "The ex-president of Google China, Kaifu Lee, has claimed that Apple's upcoming tablet device will feature a 10.1-inch screen, webcam and an awesome UI," reports Etengoff.
Set to be unveiled to the world on January 27 at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center, Apple has not positioned itself to debut the tablet at the famed International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, which begins today Jan. 7 - 10.
Apple definitely wants to garner exclusive attention to it's new tablet.
Additionally, website AppleInsider reported last week that Apple has "plans for a virtual keyboard with a dynamic surface that would give users tactile feedback when typing in order to identify individual keys. Supporting the idea of a "bigger iPhone," iPhone developers were reportedly asked to prepare their apps for a demo next month by making them support full-screen resolutions rather than the fixed 320x480 resolutions of the iPhone and iPod touch."
On another note, industry analysts argue that Apple secretly wants to mock competitors Microsoft and Intel: "Apple has consistently bested Microsoft and Intel on reference designs for products . . .If Apple does successfully introduce the "iSlate", and it does well, it's the equivalent of Steve Jobs socking it to Microsoft yet again. It will be yet another humiliation for the Seattle giant," says Mike Magee of TGDaily.
However, according to technology based website, Obsessable, there are rumors suggesting that Microsoft "will announce a collaboration with H.P. (most likely at CES) to produce some sort of thin, touch-based hardware. Right now, it could be anything from a simple e-book reader to a full-fledged tablet, or something striking a balance in between," reports Stephen Schenck.
It looks like we may have to wait and see what Apple showcases in San Francisco on the 27th, yet from the evidence surrounding Apple's recent maneuverings, the iSlate is here and we'll have it to play with by the end of the month.
We here at geekiestGeeks are excited to get a hands-on demonstration of the new device, granted if only at the Apple Store as it may cost an "arm and a leg" given Apple's pricing but that remains to be seen.
